Hecate: Chapter Three of HAG

 

The author comes to rest in southern Mexico. He hides in a ruined spa. As he strolls among the crumbling adobe walls, he sees his Hag, a spectral figure, crawling in the mud below him, and he remembers his angry muse, her silken legs, her glorious hair...

In my backyard I had a pit—eight feet deep, about ten feet long, six feet wide. I had used the dirt to build my adobe walls, mixing the earth with straw and pine needles. On a hot summer day I poured water into the pit; Stephanie, in the white silk dress, stockings, high heels, climbed down into it. She slid into the mud. I began shooting video....

I returned to Aguascalientes, taking my usual Mexican buses: a three day journey. I imagined the author with me, holing up in one of the ruined spas in that town. He peered over a crumbling parapet, into a muddy pit. There she was, the Hag, crawling seductively in the mud....
